My Mother passed away recently and while going through her old papers and belongings I came across a medal and all the paperwork associated that my father was awarded back in the 1950s.  My Dad was a 22 year veteran of the US Armed Forces (4 years in the Navy and 18 years in the Army).  He  passed away from cancer in 1997.  He was enlisted and served in the Korean War.  He met and married my Mother while stationed in Trieste, Italy, I was born in Killeen, TX (Fort Hood) and my brother was born in Augsburg, Germany.

My question is how can I find out the history around how he earned this medal?  This is the Army Commendation Medal and and I have a certificate to accompany the medal and pictures of the ceremony when he was presented the medal.  I can find no other paperwork regarding what warranted him receiving this medal.  My father and I were real close and he talked a little about his experiences but didn't really go into any detail on most of his "war" stories.  Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
