a sticky gooey chocolate bar ; this was in every British ration pack in 1966 and it took almost a full bottle of water to get it down one's throat, The place; Borneo; Kalimantan; VERY HOT , HUMID; etc etc. We had to forage for water, often dropping several hundred feet down to get it and then there was the dreaded Mars bar to try and eat . As an example; if you were to place this thing over your finger; the heat would cause it to droop down like a lost turd. We could NEVER understand this " thing" which required so much water to eat; yet there it was in every ration pack; Every time I see 1 in a shop, I am reminded of those soggy bloody horrible things.

aside from the sticky mess of a Mars bar; the Brit rations were fair. BUT; A bit senseless [ all dehydrated] ; needs a lot of water[ which we did NOT have]The Brits are strange in other ways. At JOHORE BAHRU; the meat ration was accorded as to which country you came from. The Ghurka's got the most; then the New Zealanders; then Australians and the Brits got the least; [Strange military operation; the Brits] ; We used to hate going anywhere near their bases. JOHORE was a jungle war fare school; the Brits were terrible jungle fighters and had even worse artillery than the NZ'S who we called "drop short shots" At johore; one time we were pursued by an angry elephant
