This is radical surgery to remove part or all of the lower colon . The result is a thing called a Stoma; which  is a hole on the left side of the lower abdomen just above the hip; so as to allow waste to exit the body. Usually this results in a Colostomy bag to collect the waste and you would not wish this on your worst enemy. this "thing" has to be changed or emptied about 2 times a day. It is a life saving operation as a result of bowel cancer; BUT; in some cases; it can be reversed; depends on how much of the colon is or has to be removed. Take my word for it; if this surgery can be avoided[ there are signs]; then take precautions and see a Dr. if unusual bowel habits are noted. Early detection can , does and will save your life. The alternative is just so disgusting , you do not want to hear about it. I been this way for near 3 years and the thought of it never seems to leave my mind. "IT"  is a night mare that no one wants and it can be avoided.. IF YOU notice anything unusual; get to a Dr. quick.. else a life of sheer misery awaits you.,

Furthermore, the foods you eat are one of your major concerns. In order to avoid any further serious impact, eat a balanced diet. Don't eat spicy foods, and always include foods that are rich fiber in your daily meals. Drink plenty of fluids as well. You must drink 8 to 10 glasses of liquid daily. In case you are vomiting or having diarrhea, drink more and more fluids until the the diarrhea stops.

Alcohol worsens the situation with the stoma; Most of my lower colon is gone and the operation can't be reversed. It was a debacle from the start; I RECEIVED A CALL from the hospital, to come in for a assessment; I did so; sat in Emergency for about 3 hours; then woke up in a recovery room ; with a big hole , just above my left hip. I swear to GOD that I gave NO permission; written or verbal for this to occur.
